Hasay Becomes First Athlete to
Capture Four Consecutive First Place Titles in the History of
the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships
(Schwartz Leads West Boys to Nationals)
Walnut, Calif., December 6, 2008 – Jordan Hasay of Arroyo
Grande, Calif., and Chris Schwartz of Bakersfield, Calif., won
the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCC) West Regional
at Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Walnut, Calif., today.
Hasay won the West Regional for the fourth consecutive year becoming
the first Foot Locker Cross Country athlete to achieve this feat.
Runners enjoyed good race conditions, with sunny skies and a
temperature of 65 degrees.
A pack of runners, including Jordan Hasay, Alexandra Dunne, Danielle Menlove,
Jessica Tonn, and Taylor Wallace, dominated the girls’ race until the
2.5-mile mark when Hasay pushed ahead. On the third downhill, Hasay broke free
from the pack to secure her fourth regional title with a time of 18:02. Alexandra
Dunne, a senior from San Clemente, Calif., finished second in 18:12, with Menlove,
a freshman from Sandy, Utah, third in 18:23.
In the boys’ race, Chris Schwartz, Trevor Dunbar, and Brian Shrader set
a fast pace, keeping neck-and-neck throughout the entire race, with the next
seven runners close behind. With 100 meters remaining, the tight group of ten
runners hit the track when Schwartz, a senior, took the lead to capture first
place in 15:38. Shrader, a junior from Flagstaff, Ariz., placed second in 15:42,
followed by Dunbar, a senior from Kodiak, Alaska, third in 15:43.
